NORG has already killed me twice and gosh I hate boss battles!! Other than that though here's my cross post from Tumblr: one of the things I love about ffviii is how relatable Squall is in so many ways, like, I have definitely had that feel when everyone looks at you and expects you to do something and you're like "damn I have no fucking clue what I'm doing, can't someone else do this?" but also very relatable to see someone in a managerial position above you get ready to do something and you feel like you have to be there because they might fuck it up and also also relatable is rolling around in bed like "what if this, what if that, damn I'm thinking too much, oops I fell asleep again"

Squall really is intensely relatable. I love the way the game uses pauses in dialogue to convey the way he's feeling about things:

Caraway: So, who's going to lead this operation?
(everyone looks expectantly at Squall)
(long pause while Squall unsuccessfully wills everyone to stop looking at him)
Squall: I will.

He's just such a well-drawn character. I love him.

I managed to beat NORG tonight! I love Squall so much. He's just trying to get by and Things keep happening to him and everyone thinks he's got it under control but internally he has the worst case of imposter syndrome around.
