what new hell have I fallen into

just kidding it's not hell, but it does involve double hockey sticks (/groaning at my own bad joke)
Seriously though, I don't post here often but I have definitely crossed over from "I don't care about hockey but Tyler Seguin is hot" to having an NHL.TV subscription and watching hockey games several times a week. And I went to the local minor league hockey team's game last night!
It occurred to me that the appeal of hockey RPF is actually the SAME as the appeal of FFXV. Basically: a group of bros, working together to accomplish a goal that involves a lot of masculine activities (like fighting), who are not afraid to show how much they love each other and rely on each other's support, but also give each other shit all the time. Manly men with feelings is apparently my kryptonite.
Also, hockey rpf fandom has GOOD FIC, like, wow, the quality level is way higher than most fandoms. There's so much less badfic, and all the people I've talked to are really nice? I joined a discord server about it which has been surprisingly great, because every FFXV discord I joined had so much traffic it was overwhelming and I couldn't deal. This one has a decent amount of chatter, but not constantly, so it's not like I open it up after a couple hours and find so much stuff I would never be able to catch up.
In other news, I defaulted on Yuletide for the first time ever. I should have remembered the guidance that you always match on the fandom you least want to write, but even so, I just had zero motivation to write the assignment I was given. I figured it would be better to default now than later, but I will keep an eye on the pinch hits list. But I signed up for Hockey Holidays instead, and my consent issues exchange fic is done barring some editing, so I think I'm in good shape generally. I'm co-modding the FFXV exchange again this year but I didn't sign up for it, and my co-mod is handling a lot of the work.
Anyway if anyone wants to talk hockey with me hit me up because I always go hard when I end up in a new fandom.
