The way you've phrased this is cracking me up. I love how emotionally clueless Squall is. One of my favourite examples is a dialogue option you get when he and Rinoa are reunited, if you sent her to the missile base:
Rinoa: I miss'd ya. ...You know, I thought I was gonna die at the missile base. ...That's when I really missed you. Squall: ......... Squall: Why?
It's both hilarious and tragic. Why would someone miss him? Why want him around? It's just incomprehensible to him.
