I posted this on Tumblr with the preface that this is the kind of post I used to make on livejournal, then I was like, hmm, maybe this post should be on dreamwidth! But I'm too lazy to format it again so I just copy pasted, sorry for the formatting issues. Also there's likely missing context from the random things I've been talking about on tumblr so maybe this afternoon when I'm home (bc posting to dw from a phone is a nightmare) I will catch up with some other things that ought to go here. Anyway, random stuff behind the cut!

been watching Yu Yu Hakusho with my kids and they’re really enjoying it! I am already a bit tired of the repetitive nature of a battle anime but when there’s an interesting arc I’m here for it.
I said this on bsky already but Yusuke really is the character of all time, isn’t he
the ep we watched tonight involved a big tiger beast man who I’m certain was some teenager’s furry awakening back when this was on TV
we finished Fushigi Yuugi, which was good but nowhere near as good as I remembered, and had way more sexual assault than I remembered
we’re also still in the middle of the Kyoto arc in Kenshin and enjoying it! my daughter still keeps misgendering Kenshin and I’m like “just because he has long hair doesn’t mean he’s a girl” and she’s like “but he ACTS like a girl” 🤔 (to be fair the female voice actor is probably a large factor)
after seeing so many tumblr posts lately and bc I had some time with my laptop while the kids watched tv, I started watching Revenged Love. What a wild romcom premise for a story! not sure how much I’ll get to but it has the advantage over other things that since it’s not in English I can watch it with the kids in the next room and not worry about them overhearing something age-inappropriate.
took the kids to a STEM education thing about motorsports today which was pretty interesting! I am not into racing but I have a better appreciation for it now technologically.
my ankle was better enough to go to martial arts last night and it held up okay I think, but now my teacher is on vacation and then I’m on vacation so I’m getting overall a really long unintentional break. When I get back to it I’m gonna be so behind on learning my form for this level 😩
been editing Trust Fall and goddamn I am really happy with chapter 8. I think it’s my favorite part of the whole thing. I’m excited to share it and I hope there are at least a few people out there who love it as much as I do!
sadly in my editing I’m now up to the point where I’ve left myself a handful of “this scene needs more” comments and now that means I have to actually deal with them, sigh
I got my fic done for the promptis exchange, and I have one and a half fics done for ffxv remix bc i couldn’t decide which route to go. I think I’m gonna go with the second fic I wrote bc I managed to finish it, but I need to at least look at it again and my brain is p fried lately.
finished reading the first two books in the dragonriders of pern series! I appreciate them for their role in genre and trope definition, but they felt somehow extremely silly to me. Kind of like if you took a story, dumbed down everyone involved a little, and then had them act it out in an overwrought and melodramatic manner? anyway I’m not gonna read the third I don’t think bc I have another book waiting for me to read.
the next book up is Empire of Sand which I know nothing about other than I saw it on a rec list and it sounded more interesting than the other books on the list, so we’ll see!
I think the worst thing about the popularity of romantasy is that it’s so close to the niche genre of fantasy I’ve always loved, because it means that every book I read is ALMOST a book I really enjoy but not quite there, and that’s more frustrating than a book that just entirely sucks.
it’s honestly the same vibe as reading a 100k word fanfic where it’s completely ridiculous and badly written but incredibly compelling in some indescribable way where you HAVE to know what happens? so that you come out of it having binge read for days but feeling like “why did I spend so much time on this”
anyway I read someone’s summaries of most of the rest of the ACOTAR series bc I was so frustrated by the second book and the summaries cracked me up, it was like televisionwithoutpity in 2002, I loved it
I can feel my brain in that lull where it wants another fandom, but I don’t want to give it one yet bc I have more I wanted to do with ffxv. But, you cannot force the brain where it will not go, so all I have going is the ability to not consume any media that might hyperfixate me so that I can at least write the damn epilogue of Trust Fall first (and that is why mdzs is sitting on my kindle waiting for me unread, though YYH has that vibe that Yusuke could become a blorbo too)
work has been a major shitshow the last couple weeks but I think I’ve managed to hold it together okay. My main failure was in a team meeting when a person was saying “someone needs to (do a thing)” and I looked at her and said “you’re someone”. kind of a dick move, but also, she could totally do it herself and it was part of her assigned work.
I’m going on vacation next week so hopefully my coworker who is the other person who can handle this shitshow will be recovered from being sick and able to pick things up while I’m gone so I don’t return to an even bigger shitshow
going on vacation next week means I actually need to decide on activities where we’re going 🥲 better get on it
